Professional Development Program

Providing opportunities to help you achieve your full potential

Through our Skills Development Fund Project the Professional Development Program aims to provide high-quality training programs and mentorship matching services to AME workers & job seekers of underrepresented groups, facing higher barriers of entry or simply struggling and in need of support, to find and maintain meaningful and gainful employment.

How the Program Works

Course spots are limited so we have put together a committee of AME industry volunteers to assess applications and award courses to those we feel would benefit most.

Application Assessments

Applications will be assessed in batches by our team of AME volunteers. All applicants will be informed, by email, of when they can expect their assessment results.

Awarding Courses

ALL applicants will be informed, by email, of the outcome of their application assessment.

ALL applicants, whether awarded a free training opportunity or not, will receive a little bit of mentoring in the form of career feedback form our committee of volunteers.

Enrollment

Once selected, you will need to complete and return a Ministry Registration Form to apply.sdf@ame-ont.com. Once received, you will then be enrolled in the training course of your choice!

Upskilling

Licensed AME looking to improve on technical or soft skills?

We're offering a limited number of spots for paid tuition of a 1 week training course at Advanced Composites Training in London, ON.

Please Note: This offering covers only the tuition and would require the person attending to have time off from work as well as their own travel and accommodation arrangements, if necessary.


Offered online, through our partnership with WorkRight, this 10-part Soft Skills Certification Program is designed to help you get ahead in the competitive world of work. 

Please Note: Participants will have 90 days access to WorkRights online portal to complete this training.

Mental Wellness

Skills to help you better manage stress in the workplace

Offered online, through our partnership with WorkRight, this 10-part Workplace Mental Health & Psychological Safety Certification Program is developed by leading psychologists and mental health professionals and provides training on topics such as: Stress Management, Resiliency, Anxiety, etc.

Please Note: Participants will have 90 days access to WorkRights online portal to complete this training.

Mentorship

Recent graduate, newly hired or having challenges getting your first job?

In partnership with Technical Training Group, we've created a custom Industry Readiness Refresher Program. This program will cover Blueprint Reading Course, Math for Skilled Trades Course & Measuring Instruments Course, with industry specific content provided by AME-Ont.

This virtual, instructor-led, program will help you become more confident and proficient in basic skills that may be lacking due to the pandemic and are highly valued by AME employers.

  • Printed workbooks mailed to your home
  •  3-hour, instructor-led, classes delivered via Zoom
  • Total of 9 evening classes

Mentorship Matching Program

Our Mentorship Matching Program matches you with a volunteer mentor based on profile information, self-identified coaching needs and professional goals.

  • Gain practical knowledge and insight from a seasoned AME or business professional
  • Have a confidential sounding board for ideas or challenges
  • Expand your awareness of different approaches to work
